Access Control
From District87 Wiki
Why The Need for Access Control
Security is of the utmost important in schools. Most schools keep doors locked and have a buzzer at the front or the people who need to get in have keys. But keys can become lost and the money it would take to, after enough keys to be lost to be a security risk, change the locks and redistribute keys is enormous.
What Is Being Done Currently
Right now the Technology Department is beta testing the equipment and software on select doors in the basement of the high school. This allows for a controled environment where we can work out the bugs of the system so if and when Access Control goes onto a larger scale we'll be able to accurately handle it.
How Does it Work?
Door Access, or Access Control, is done by using special CR80 sized cards (Credit card-sized). These cards have a computer chip in them that has it's own identification number per card. This ID number is then assigned to a person within the door system, and given creditentials, including what doors they can enter and at what times they can enter them. The system also logs all uses of each card for security purposes. This, in conjunction with the current camera system would provide identification of a person if a crime were to occur a lot quicker than if it were just cameras.
