What is a Listserv

Please check out listserv.district87.org for more information. In short it is subscribeable mailing list.

Creating a Listserv

Please visit listserv.district87.org and fill out the form. Once this is done you will receive emails telling you when it is ready to go.

Changing the settings to a Listserv you created

Pleaes visit http://listserv.d87list.org/mailman/admin and click on your listserv. It will ask you for your password. Once you provide this you will be able to change system wide settings for your listserv. If you forget your password please contact listserv@district87.org

Using a Listserv

Subscribing to a Listserv

Visit the following website http://listserv.d87list.org/mailman/listinfo and choose which listserv you want to subscribe to. Once you click on it you will get a form asking for your email address and a password. Once you do this you will get another email asking you to confirm the subscription, if you click on the link it will do this. You will receive another email containing some useful links that you might want to hold onto (not needed, but makes it easier for future use

Unsubscribing to a Listserv

Visit the same link as you would use to Subscribe http://listserv.d87list.org/mailman/listinfo and choose the listserv you want. At the very bottom once you click on the link there is an option to put in your email address to Unsubscribe or change options. Once you put in your email address you will have a variety of options and one is unsubscribe.

Viewing the Archives of the Listserv

Visit the following website http://listserv.d87list.org/mailman/listinfo and choose which listserv you want to read the archives for. Once you click on the listserv there is a link at the top for the Archives. Please check out the how secure are my emails section about email security.

Changing your settings on a Listserv you subscribed to

Following the same instructions as you would Unsubscribe. Once you get to the part after putting in your email address you have a lot of options for the listserv. You can also change your password and your Display name if you want.

Emailing a listserv

Once it is created you will be able to email the name you provided in the form @d87list.org. It is important to notice it IS NOT district87.org, but d87list.org. Example if you provided mylist in the form it would be mylist@d87list.org.

Can anyone email a listserv?

They have to subscribe to a listserv first before they can email to it. You have the ability to turn approval on your listserv if you created it, but by default it allows anyone to subscribe. No emails will be sent to the list unless that person is subscribed to it first. It will email them telling them of this.

How secure are my emails?

Answer: Not Very. There is an archive kept of all messages by default and these are mostly public. We encourage that no sensitive information be published to these emailing lists. Please use district email to send sensitive information inside the district.
